Deadman Top Hat

Do you know why these shorter, more sinister looking top hats are called Deadman hats? In the mid 1800's, men still wanted to look dapper, even in their coffins. However, the taller top hat of the day added materials costs to their coffins, so the Deadman hat was created to save on square footage on the deceased's final resting place. He still looked dressed up, but since the top hat rested right on the top of his head, the coffin didn't need to be made any taller than he was.

While traditionally this hat can be described as a John Bull Topper, the Jaxon Deadman Tophat was inspired by the Jim Jarmusch film "Dead Man" starring Johnny Depp. The Deadman Wool Felt Top Hat's is extremely unique and features a short crown with an oval fit and slightly flared sides paired with a classically curled brim.
